Top 5 WordPress Mobile Theme Plugins You Should Not Ignore

Last month while I was doing my regular research, I learned from a friend’s blog that – “people using their phones to search information through Google mobile search, will only be served the mobile version of sites”. I don’t fully know how true is that but what i do know is – in this new era of blogging, if your blog is not mobile friendly (compatible), your blog might loose a lot of mobile users and or might not be included on mobile searches.

Do you know how many people use their phones to surf the web all over the world? It will be unwise not to take that opportunity, right?

Since we all are looking for quality traffic, optimizing our site for mobile users as well might just be the next best thing for growing our blog readers and subscribers, or what do you think?

Top 5 WordPress Mobile Theme Plugins You Shouldn’t Ignore

We have a lot of awesome mobile theme plug-in for WordPress users which are lovely and fun to use. But on my today’s post, I will be talking about 5 mobile themes plug-in that is well used in the blogging world.

If you’re trying to choose a mobile theme for your WordPress blog, then one of these plugin might definitely be ok for you.

The number one on my list should be none other than:

Mobilepress:

According to its developer – MobilePress is a plugin for WordPress that renders a mobile friendly version of your WordPress website or blog.

If you have visited this blog using a mobile phone, you’ll see a lovely mobile view. I am using a customized mobilepress which I did myself…

The reason I love Mobilepress is because they give you full access and total control of the theme. This means, you can edit the theme the way you want it to look like and how you want it to look. Most mobile theme doesn’t give us that privilege to edit their theme, right?

The mobilepress works well on all phones…

WPtouch:

According to its developer – WPtouch is a mobile plugin for WordPress that automatically enables a simple and elegant mobile theme for mobile visitors of your WordPress website.

Wptouch is one of the most popular wordpress mobile theme plugin around. It gives you a stylish version of your site and also gives you the option to customize some few aspects of the theme.

It works best on mobile touch screens.

Wpapptouch:

According to its developer – WPapptouch is a WordPress theme and plugin to transform your WordPress web site to a Native like application for mobile.

The reason I love the WPapptouch is because of its Devices detection. You can choose which devices will see the WPapptouch themes. But as WPtouch, it works better on touch screen phones.

Just asking: Wpapptouch and wptouch are indeed similar in every way possible. Is it the same developer that created the two plugins?

Carrington Mobile:

According to its developer – Carrington Mobile is an elegant mobile theme with that supports advanced touch browsers (iPhone, Android, BlackBerry) and is also backward compatible with older mobile devices.

I seriously don’t know what happened to the developer of this plugin but it looks like the plugin has not been updated for like a while now. But if you can customize your way through, this plugin is indeed one to look into.

Your Pick:

I just don’t want to pick out the entire mobile theme myself, so this section is for you my friends :).

  1. Nice post Baba Nature but I would like to point that if one has a responsive design like I have on my website, and like many bloggers have nowadays, then there would be no need for such extra plugins! 😀
    Keep them coming!

    1. Hey Aditya,
Yeah, responsive themes are awesome but as we all know, there are some phones that responsive themes don’t look good on (|like the java phones and most symbian/s60 phones).
Many bloggers who uses responsive themes still have a mobile theme. But i’ll surely advice responsive themes users to continue with their theme as long as it looks awesome :).

Thanks for stopping by and dropping a comment. Do have a great week start…

    1. Ahah… Mobilepress is indeed a cool mobile theme to try out. But to make mobilepress more awesome, you’ll definitely needs some customization sense 🙂

Thanks for stopping by and dropping your comment. Do have yourself a wonderful week start

    1. Hello John,
Mobilepress is a nice simple mobile theme that is indeed awesome :).
The rest mentioned mobile themes are also great…

Thanks for stopping by and dropping your comment. Have a good week start…

  2. Hi Babanature,

As you already know I have a responsive theme, so perhaps as you mentioned earlier one doesn’t really need a mobile press theme. But I read your reply to Aditya where you mentioned that on certain phones the look of the posts doesn’t look all that good….hmm…seems like I might have to do something about that.

Great list, nevertheless and surely needs to be bookmarked and saved up 🙂

Thanks for sharing these themes with us. Have a nice week ahead 🙂

    1. Hey Harleena,

I checked your blog out on my phone and although it loaded slow it looks fine. It’s not what I would consider “mobile ready” but I could read the posts just fine. You know I’m not a big cell user for this so I’m probably the last one to give advice but just thought you’d like to know.

      ~Adrienne

    2. Hello Harleena,
Yes! A responsive theme is indeed great but as we all know it does not fit with all phones. In this new era, it is good to satisfy all phones in all categories.
One thing i forget to add, mobile theme tends to load faster then responsive themes on phones 🙂

Thanks for stopping by and dropping your lovely comment, do have a blessed week start…

  3. Hi Babanature,

Till date I am using Blogger and I planed to start a blog on wordpress but little confusion with this plugin and so on..
We need this mobile site because mobile users and tablet users are increasing and desktop users are lagging.. 🙂

    1. Hello Nikhil,
Ahh… blogger blog also has awesome mobile template as well and that should be good for you…
But if you think of migrating anytime, then bookmarking this post will be a good option.

Thanks for stopping by and dropping your comment. Do have a lovely week ahead…

  4. Mobilepress seems to be the most flexible of them, it gives the flexibility of WordPress to mobile users and with a good knowledge of HTML and CSS you can customize or build your own theme to your taste or to best suit your audience.

I have tried a couple of the other ones before saying mobilepress is my best, but there is another mobile theme plugin you have not mentioned, its usually included in Jetpack, Its called mobile theme and it is awesome. Tried it some time ago and may be reverting back to it since i have had some little issues with mobilepress that always render mobile pages to my PC visitors.

    1. Hello Nwosu,
Funny enough, i have not installed jetpack on my blog because i heard it uses a pretty good amount of resource. But thanks for mentioning that mobile theme plugin it comes with.

Thanks for stopping by and dropping your awesome comment. Have a beautiful week ahead :).

  5. Hi Babanature,
Mobile is a big trend my friend and it is great that you are helping people out. Going with a pre-built theme is a great idea as programming something to be responsive is a lot of work and knowledge that most people don’t have.
    Keep up the good work
    ashley

  6. Hi Baba !
I have used Mobilepress and WPtouch even-though my blogs theme is responsive. Mobilepress loads pretty fast ..Pagespeed test rates mobilepress 80+ for every blog with mobilepress mobile theme . I would recommend people to use Mobilepress . Thanks for sharing these plugins brother !

  7. Hi Babanature,

Thanks for this info, but I use Flexsqueeze, and I’ve just heard that the new version, coming out soon, will be fully responsive to all mobile devices – so I’m waiting for that, rather than adding any plugins at this stage.

    1. Hello Susan,
The thing is, mobile users who surf the internet will be more than pc users in 2014 and it is good to take advantage of this information.
We all know that responsive theme doesn’t place well on all mobile phones. and as Adrienne replies to Harleena’s comment above, responsive theme load slow on most mobile phones.
To me – i’d recommend you using a mobile theme for your blog… But as i’ll always say, if your theme is awesome as it is, no need to use a mobile theme 🙂
Thanks for your lovely comment and do have yourself a blessed week ahead…

  8. Hello,

Wptouch plugin is my favorite plugin in the listed ones, I’ve using this plugin since a long time. It bring me awesome results from mobile users. I’m gonna try the other mentioned plugins.

    Thanks for sharing!

    1. Hello Samir,
Many bloggers indeed do love the WPtouch plugin. And if it’s working perfect for you, no need to switch except you’re getting error 🙂
Thanks for the comment. Do have a wonderful week…

  9. Hey Babanature,

So far, mobile press has been working quite well for me. Well at least on my phone and judging from the comments certain themes don’t work on certain phones. So this is a good thing that you introduced 4 other mobile them plugins just in case this happens. Thanks for sharing!

    1. Hello Sherman,
Nice to know that you are using mobilepress. Mobilepress is a good theme that i am also using on this particular blog. It is more great to use if you know your way around html and css 🙂
Other themes mentioned here are also great as well…
Thanks for your kind comment and do have a blissful week

  10. Hey Babanature,

Good list and I use WPTouch and I love it. You can switch it to full theme if you want so you really have a choice.

I’m sure that over time the newer themes will all be mobile ready but for those of us that are very happy with our current themes, a plugin will do just fine.

    Great list here and thanks.

    ~Adrienne

    1. Hello Adrienne,
It’s good to know that you’re using Wptouch as your mobile theme on your blog. I do advice bloggers to use mobile theme plugin so they can satisfy their readers using mobile to surf their sites.

Thanks for your wonderful comment on this post and letting others know how important a mobile theme is 🙂
      Have yourself a blissful week…

  11. Not my domain but I can share my opinion, the fact is mobile devices take the roll of computers because the technology has made big steps forward.

Is good to be prepared and well optimised for mobile devices.

See you next time Babanature! Regards from I. C. Daniel

    1. You’re right Daniel,
In this new era of blogging, responsive theme just don’t cut it anymore. It is good to get a mobile theme to make your blog more fast and mobile user friendly.

Thanks for the comment and do have a lovely week ahead…

    1. Hello Inyavic,

  12. Thanks for the tip.
I haven’t paid nearly enough attention to my sites appearance on mobile devices. I am definitely going to look into this app to make sure everything runs smoothly.

  13. Great post! And to be honest with you I’m not using any mobile theme plugins as of now because i just forget or neglected it. I’m gonna pick a best plugin and use it.

    Thanks for sharing.

    1. Hello Ashish,
As you can see, mobile theme is very important to have. Because it improved the speed of your blog on all kind of mobile phone.
And it even helped increase mobile search visibility on your blog.

Thanks for stopping by and dropping your comment. Do have a nice week ahead…

  14. Oh, wow I can’t believe I haven’t thought much about mobile theme for my upcoming blog. Thanks for the reminder, Babanature 😉

I have used WPtouch in the past. Only thing I didn’t like is the generic theme, but that’s okay. Mobiles have small screens, we don’t have our themes to be too fancy.

I have heard of Mobilepress, but the other plugins are new to me. I will give each one a try, see which one works best for me and stick with it 😉

Thanks for the share, Babanature 🙂

    1. Hello Jeevan,
Really? After your blog setup, your mobile theme should be the next thing to think about 🙂
All of the themes are wonderful and i am sure you’re going to love them. But if you ever want me to share my mobilepress with you, just let me know and i will 🙂

      Have a lovely week ahead…

  15. Hello Babanature,

Though the option of going mobile is one of the awesome features my host provided at setup, I could not resist the appeal of WP Touch. An insanely nice mobile plugin if you ask me.

I have not tried out the others for obvious reasons of keeping server’s load low.

    Do have a great day!

    – Terungwa

  16. Nice post. Got mobile press plugin to but don’t like the look. Maybe you should help us with tut on editing it. I know little on dreamweaver too, if it would be required.

  17. Hi Babanature,

This plugins are indeed very great, I’m currently using WPtouch but am planning to try out mobilepress to check which is better.

    1. Hello Adesanmi,
Mobilepress is a nice plugin and looks ok and fast. But to make it more awesome and beautiful in the eyes, you will need to customize it a little.
I am sure you’re going to love it when you try it out :).
Thanks for the comment and do have a wonderful weekend ahead

  18. Regretting for not having read this before. Mobilepress in awesome. Your blog looks really good in my low end java enabled mobile phone. Earlier I was in great need of this but wasted much time on other plugins. Used WPtouch but not satisfied, but definitely try mobilepress. Thanks very much babanature!

  19. Nice article… Installed mobilepress on my blog and activated skyline theme. But I noticed that d blogs is taking long to load.. What can be d cause of dat sir???

  20. Having mobile optimized and attractive site is very important these days as 60-70% visit the web through mobile devices like smart phone and table. These plugins will help my wordpress site to make it more attractive for mobile.
