How to Moderate What Shows on Your Facebook Timeline

I know I have said this countless of times but I’ll still say it again – Facebook is one of the best place to get good traffic from.

Even after limiting page reach, bloggers/ website and business owners still find ways of getting some reasonable amount of traffic from the largest social network platform.

Seriously, I don’t know how you get your Facebook traffic, but one of the most annoying ways that still works like charm is tagging people to your links.

Ahahah… Yeah, tagging people to your link on Facebook brings in some reasonable amount of traffic, how? When you tag a friend, the link will appear in his or her timeline right? This will make all his/her friends see the link you tag her with. Now the important part is; if your headline is catchy, those friends are surely to click the link to see what you’ve written, great right?

I don’t know about you but I seriously hate being tag in links that does not relate to me or what I normally blog about. And believe me, I do get tagged heavily.

Yes, when I get tagged on a link that doesn’t relate to me, I do untag myself but for how long am I going to untag myself from all the irrelevant links i get to my timeline daily? Most of us bloggers are not always glued to Facebook because we have just so many things to do, right? So moderating what shows on our timeline sure looks best…

Just like a blog where you moderate your comments before publishing it, this is exactly how your Facebook timeline will be. Anytime you’re online, you’ll moderate your timeline, approve links that are related to you and drop the rest that are not.

Why you need this?

There are some times when a friend hacked account will tag you on one of their tricky tactics in other to get you and your other friends personal information. You know that when you get tagged, your friends will also see the link and some of your friends might be interested to check the link out because of the catchy title they use. And once they click the link, their Facebook details are going to be transferred to the hacker.

I have received many of those hack and spammy links and thank God my friends don’t see such on my timeline because I moderate them before they could go live.

Spam is spam that’s why we moderate our blog comment before it goes live. Moderating your timeline will keep you and your profile neat and professional 🙂 . Hope you’re with me?

  1. Hi Babanature,

I am glad you brought up this topic 🙂

Tagging, notifications, and getting numerous messages on Facebook does become very irritating after a while, and sometimes from people or strangers you don’t know. Not to mention when they start inviting you to like their page or share their posts, play games, or poke you too!

If you are friends and know each other, it’s a different issue, or else, it’s such a waste of time going through the whole process. I wish more people would understand the fact that not everyone is free to open and check your notifications, and before anything else, learn to build relationships with them and then proceed further, isn’t it?

Thanks for sharing. Have a nice weekend 🙂

    • You are definitely right Harleena,
The best way to get anybody’s attention, is by making connection. Some bloggers think that by just tagging, they can get their attention… But hey connection is everything…
But though, i wonder when Facebook will add the option of switching certain notifications 🙂
Thanks for the lovely comment. Do have a blessed weekend ahead

  2. Hello Babanature,

This info is timely…little tweaks like these may just be the only difference between a professional and amateurish profile. The fact that many folks make it a point to abuse tagging also calls for such measures.

Who appreciates spamming or spam related acts?

    • Hello Akaahan,
Many bloggers, especially the new one truly don’t know the main essence of tagging. They do it in a way that annoys the person being tag wish i feel is bad. nobody liked to be spammed. especially on places you love being 🙂
Thank God that Facebook has brought a way for us to keep our timeline neat
Thanks for the lovely comment and do have a good weekend

  3. Hi Babanature,

This is very good to know but you’ll be very proud of me. I’ve always had mine set like that. Now if only I could get people to stop tagging me when I have nothing to do with what they’re sharing.

I’ve always had my settings to where only my friends can see things but I have to approve what will show up on my wall. Not that many people view my wall anymore but some people just put things there to be seen and that’s so irritating to me.

I don’t like the way Facebook changed the tagging features because instead of just stopping notifications I’d like the option to remove the tag entirely. Maybe enough people will complain about that.

Thanks for sharing this and I know most people will find this handy as well.

Enjoy your weekend now and great info.

    • Hello Adrienne,
Wow! it is good to know and that you also love keeping your timeline neat 🙂 .

Yeah, there is still an option to untag yourself from a tagged link or update… as long as this feature is enabled, just click hide when moderating the link and click the report/remove tag 🙂

Your comment is always lovely dear friend… Do have a great week ahead.

  4. Hello Baba,

Well this tweaks seems really simple but I believe they’ll make lot of difference and would improve the usage of facebook. Secondly it’s really important to make changes in privacy setting too so that we can’t get any annoying tags.

    • You are right Samir,
Tagging unnecessary should be consider a spam. to take care of your timeline is also necessary. 🙂
Thanks for your lovely comment. Do have a good week ahead

  6. Hi Babanature,

These are really useful to moderate our Facebook Timeline. But I am really suprised to know that we can improve our traffic by tagging friends in our link. Anyway I understand that we should tag people those who are related to the link.I am a new blogger finding ways to improve my blog traffic. Thanks for your posts

    • Hello Vino,
Yes, Tagging is one facebook traffic method that will never fade. it is still effective… but at the same time, it annoys people 🙂
Tagging people or friends is not a bad thing, but tagging people or friends on post that are not related to them in any way is the bad thing.
I do hope you learn from this post… do have a lovely week ahead…

    • Hello Munna,
It is good to know that you’ve also enabled this feature and that you’re keeping your timeline as neat as possible.
Thanks for stopping by and dropping your wonderful comment. Do have a wonderful week ahead

  7. Informative article bro! I too was a victim of being tagged by unknown and unwanted people. It was very annoying. This tutorial really helped me moderating my facebook timeline and get rid of those spammy posts and tags.
Alos, as I am a new blogger, I got to know from this article that we can increase traffic by tagging friends. I request you to please keep updating these type of tweaky articles.

  8. It really bugs me the tagging option, I have a girl still can tag me but I removed her from friends, I think is an account just to make spam to some sort of apps. Unbelievable what others do for money.
