I quit: The One Reason Why Bloggers Quit Blogging

I’m still wondering why bloggers quit their blogs or why most bloggers abandon their blogs. Well, do you know why? I don’t really know but what I do know is – motivation is the only thing that can make any man move further than he should. Once you’re not motivated, you will definitely stop trying one day (fact).

the-big-blog-question

Before I move further, I’d like to ask you one simple question – why are you blogging? Or should I say; why do you blog? You can make up many reasons why you blog but if you truly don’t know your main purpose, pretty soon you’ll drop out of blogging.

Have I gotten your attention or should I continue explaining?

Blogging: To Be Or Not To Be

While most bloggers will give you their many reasons for quitting their blogs, I’ll tell you that all the reasons they’ll give will only end up to just one main reason. And do you know what that “one” main reason is? Well let’s continue, and I’ll tell you along the way.

If a blogger has not made a penny from blogging over 8 months and he/ she still has the courage to move on despite all odds. To my view, that is called motivation :).  Or what other words can you use to describe such strength?

Now let me list down my one main reason why bloggers quit blogging…

The one reason Number One: # Money:

I had a friend who joined the blogging world sometime back. The only reason he joined blogging was to make money from it (well, that’s why most bloggers joined blogging) but after some months, he discovered that blogging is not where you make easy money from and he gave up his blog and move on to other job opportunities :).

Assuming he had the will to move further despite all odds, he attended some online courses, learned from top bloggers, he would have indeed make money blogging, right?

So my point is; if you joined blogging with the sole aim of making money online and you don’t know the right directions to take, you will end up failing. And remember that nothing is worse than a quitter…

Tips to keep you in the game:

If you create your blog because you want to make money from it, you can but…

– You must learn how to actually make money from your blog

– Do some tight research

– Attend some nice but effective courses from well known bloggers that are actually making money online

– You must also have the willingness to learn

Doing all this and more will definitely help you in your making money online blogging. But if you can’t perform the taxes and expect to just make money from your blog the first month you created it, Ahhhh… I rest my case :).

The one reason Number Two: Positive Result:

This is one of the main reason people quit their blogs today and I know you will agree with me.

Imagine you have been blogging for like 1yr + and you’re not seeing any sign of positivity like, traffic spike, blog engagement, a dollar, wouldn’t you feel like quitting? Well, we all know why people are not getting that positive result after many months or years in the blogging world. But in case you don’t know, let me point out why you’re not getting that positive result…

– Not consistent

– Too lazy to carry out what you learn

– You don’t socialize with other bloggers

– You give up too easily

– Not in the right Niche

– You’re just not trying

– Can you give other reasons :).

Tips to keep you in the game:

Can you mention any blogger making money online that you know whose not hard working? There is none right? You must be focus and willing to carry out what you learn and not just read a blogger’s post and dropping a thank you comment. Blogging is for the smart and hardworking people that are willing learn even more…

My advice to you is – work smart with a pinch of hard work :).

Motivation is that one reason:

Looking at the two reasons I gave – motivation plays the major role, right? So if you are not motivated, you can’t keep up with the blogging world. Let me tell you a short story about myself that might motivate you…

The starting of my blogging career was very cold and bitter. I started my blogging carrier with no money on me, nobody to cheer me up, nobody to guide me through difficult blogging moments and I really did not have any blogging friends coming up, except me and my self motivated spirit. The only things that push me through those hard times, was the joy I had helping others, my passion, my willingness to learn and the art of never giving up. And believe me, all work out fine at the end :).

Take Home:

Note: I am writing this post today to help many bloggers who’s having the intention of giving up, to stay focus :).

My advice to you is – if you don’t have any blogging buddy to motivate you, motivate yourself. Get the spirit of always learning, develop the passion towards blogging and try to make other top bloggers recognize you and your works.

  1. Hi Babanature,

I am SO glad you came up with this different, yet much needed inspirational and motivational post 🙂

Yes, there are many bloggers who start off with lots of gusto but give up after a few months, mainly because of the very reasons you mentioned. I think they lack the focus and patience. Blogging is not an easy task and it DOES take a lot of your time, in-fact more than your full-time job I’d say, unless of course you learn the art of time management. But then what in this world comes easy!

I agree that most bloggers join the Blogosphere to earn money, but to learn the tricks of the trade, you need time and a strong willpower to fall and rise up each time you fall. You don’t have to fear your initial failures, because those will teach you the real, right ways for your future. Just like you, blogging was never my cup of tea, and I had NO ONE either to teach me anything, nor did I have any friend’s because I was always a writer, busy in my own profession.

However, it was with time, the will to learn, the passion to go ahead against all odds, that got me to where I am today (nothing all that good I know, but whatever little I have achieved). I made friends, learned a lot from them, tried, tested, failed, and tried yet again till I succeeded. There is nothing else that really works, unless of course you have friend’s who are already established and there to help you, which should be the foremost aim of every blogger who reaches a better level than the new bloggers. I think that starting phase of my blogging career I can never forget, so I feel for the newbies, and like you, feel to be there to help them, in whatever way possible.

Yes, they need to say – never give up, and remain determined to make it – no matter what. You really don’t need a lot of investment and can tap a lot of free resources available, provided YOU are really ready to give it your full, which is the most essential part. Ah…I better stop or else my rant will continue 😉

Thanks for sharing this important post with everyone. Have a nice week 🙂

  2. yes buddy you said it right, many guys just start blogging with money in mind, but they should know that atleast 1000 visitors are required to make atleast 1$ a day,and you should know current trends and some SEO tips to keep your blog up.

    1. Hello George,
There are different ways of making money online and learning how to is better than not learning at all. The best way to make it through the blogging world is to put passion first before any other thing.
Thanks for the comment and do have a beautiful weekend 🙂

  3. Quitters never win and winners never quit! I found myself quitting blogging due to one or two reasons which have being captured in this post as well.
But with time, I’ve found out that there is more to blogging than one ever thought!

    1. Hello Emmanuel,
That’s right, quitters are those that stop trying and to me (and most people) quitters are the worst kind of people on planet earth.
Glad you have kept your act together and move on in your blogging dream :). Thanks for stopping by and dropping your comment, do have a wonderful weekend ahead…

  4. Hi Baba

I’ll just re-quote myself here. “Those driven by vision will last longer than those driven by survival.”

Imagine someone launched a blog today and he is already asking how to monetize without any post.

    1. Hello Abraham,
That’s sounds funny right? Many people wants to make money from blogging without having any post on their blogs. Once you start seeing money as your primary objective, failure will be the next launch.
Thanks for stopping by and do have a wonderful weekend 🙂

  5. Thanks for this motivation!

Self motivation, patience, focused, time management are very important for any blogger to move on with blogging.

No one should be discouraged with the initial fall backs. Success rate initially will be very low. And its low only because of lack of deep or complete knowledge of blogging. So reading articles of top blogs is needed. It takes time. Blogging is not a get rich in a night stuff.

To win a race its important to remain in the race!

  6. thanks for your inspiration, I think this what we all need “Motivation”,
and I feel patience is required for blogging success to.

    1. Hello Micheal,
You’re right, patience is the watch word here. Patience can indeed lead you through life…
Thanks for stopping by and dropping your comment, do have a wonderful weekend ahead…

  7. I do agree on this. Money is the biggest reasons why bloggers quit. When money is the only goal people find that it’s not an overnight success thus the quit because feel disappoint.

People often forget that wealth build by hardwork.

    Great post Babanature

    1. Hello Okto,
Many bloggers joined the blogging world because of making money but none know how to actually make money online when they start. It is possible to make money online the first month you start but you you need to learn how to before you can.
Blogging is all about patience and working smart… it takes time to truly master the art of blogging.
Thanks for stopping by buddy. Do have a wonderful weekend 🙂

  8. Hey Babanature,

Like your friend, a lot of people start blog for the sole purpose of making money. If there’s no money to be made in a short period of time, then they’ll hang it up.

If you want to get into the blogging world, you just have to have a passion for it. If you like to just help people through writing and/or making videos, or just socialize with others that like the blog where you can also learn from, then this will be the right avenue for you to take.

Other than that, you can make money anywhere. The strategy that you want to use to make money is really the question. Any strategy is going to be a challenge and take some hard work to do. As you said, you just have to be motivated to go through those challenges.

    Thanks for sharing!

  9. Hey Babanature,

Great post man! Its been a while since I last read anything as good as this in the internet and of course that looks as if I were the scribbler.

What an intrinsic motivation! One thing I’ve learned bout blogging is that its never a day’s job, not a week or month’s job. Its a continuous process.

Another thing would be that blogging takes patience and determination. And a host of other things u have mentioned.

Thanks for sharing this with us brother and thanks for dropping by my blog today, its much appreciated. 🙂

    Sam

  10. I believe most important is passion than comes money, when money start roll in our bank account passion increase.

Is the thing which remind us “Hey, I did not spent my time for nothing after all”.

Kind regards from I. C. Daniel

  11. This is a very insightful and inspirational post. I think it just comes down to how badly we want something. And like you said motivation is important. Motivation mostly come from inside so willingness is also important.

    1. Hello Olumide,
You know, Motivation is what drives your will, once there is no motivation, your will power will be low.
Thanks for stopping by and dropping your comment and do have a wonderful weekend ahead 🙂

  12. Hey Babanature,

Well you’re definitely right about that! Most of us created our blogs for the sole purpose of making money, I did. Now I did make money from my blog but I was sharing content that would lead them to an affiliate product and it worked.

Back then I didn’t know people were suppose to be commenting and I didn’t get a lot of traffic either. I did get very bored with the subject though and investigated more.

I’ve mentioned so many times about us living in an instant gratification society. People want things today, they want results now. We all do whether we openly admit it or not but that’s just not the way things work. We only wish it was but that’s not reality.

I wish there was a way that people could come online, find the best information for them whether it’s free or paid and learn what it takes before getting frustrated. If only but there is so much information out there. If those people only came into this taking the much needed action steps to reach whatever their desired goal is they’d do it.

I would think that the people coming into this would have the motivation needed but they only lose it when they aren’t getting the results.

Maybe there will be enough information now that will help them and we all know how bloggers are, willing to help as well.

I hope you’ve inspired a few people today Babanature that may have been sitting on the fence about blogging. It’s a fabulous thing to do and it’s totally worth your time.

    Have a great weekend!

    ~Adrienne

    1. Hello Adrienne,
Thank you so much for the kind words and for the contribution as well. It was truly appreciated 🙂
Thanks for stopping by and do have a great weekend start…

  13. Hi ,

I think a lot of people start blogging because they thing blogging is a way of easy money.Another thing which i found in alot of bloggers who fails is that they don’t have proper plain , what to do and how to do.

    1. Hello Shorya,
You’re right, many bloggers wants to make money but don’t know how or where to start. They don’t even have a strategy to begin with :).
I think most of these bloggers need enlightenment so they can be motivated to keep moving on.
Thanks for the comment and hope to see you here more often. Have a blessed weekend

  14. Hi Babanature,
My mentor said in the beginning of my business career, “If you are going to do business because you want to make money, you are starting on a wrong foot and you are not going to make it.”

And I now understand why he said so. I didn’t start business for money. I started because I wanted to be engaged in learning process, I wanted to associate with people with positive mental attitude, I wanted to be around people who were going somewhere in life.

And I wanted to give hope to others, be an example that other could look at and say,”Because of you Kumar, I didn’t give up.”

Guess what, I am still standing and going strong while many others who started doing the same thing are no more there. A lot of people start on the wrong foot and therefore never make it.

The cause has to be greater than you. There needs to be passion for the work and not for money. Only then there is a chance to persist in face of the challenges that are bound to come anyway. Right?

Thank you for sharing and have a great weekend!

    Regards,
    Kumar

    1. Hello Kumar,
You have indeed shared with us a motivational talk here and i’ll say that, it is most appreciated 🙂
Thanks for the lovely comment Kumar, it is most appreciated. Do have a lovely weekend…

  15. I quit blogging because of my studies 😉 Well, that an money 😀 But, I could have continued (one of my friends was willing to lend me some money). I decided to quit anyway. I wanted a change (In reality, I was planning to launch a new blog. But, then I decided not to do that too).

But, here I am. Planning to launch another blog just one year after that 😉 Even though I gave up blogging, my heart was always in the blogging world. I love blogging – it gives me that satisfaction. And that’s why I blogged continuously for three years, even though I didn’t achieve many of my goals.

Now, I have a better plan, with a better goal. Blogging is no longer just a hobby for me. I plan to make money with it 😉 And I consider it as my first business venture (My mistake with my other blogs was not doing that. I didn’t try to make much money, just enough to buy plugins and pay for hosting and that sort of thing. But, in the end, I didn’t have money to pay for hosting).

Anyways, back to the topic 😉

Motivation? It can be tricky area. I have played around with my motivating factors (for blogging). And that’s probably why I was able to blog for a long time. Money can be a good motivator, but I find that personal interest can be much more powerful. Like you mentioned, always be willing to learn more.

And experiment with your ideas 😉 It keeps blogging interesting (And we definitely want to do that).

Anyways, thank you for sharing your ideas, Babanature 🙂 Hope you have a great weekend!

    1. Hello Jeevan,
Let me share a little secret with you, Back in 2011, i created my first ever site called onenaija.net but as the story goes, i did not made a penny from it and there was no money to buy host, so i quit the sites and move on to other things. I started blogging for people, there i learn the art of making money from blogging. I created onenaijablog because i believe i have learn the major thing that can bring me money, any other thing i learn now- is call “addition”.

Making blogging your passion and turning that passion to motivation, you can never think of giving up because once your provide people with good information, they will learn to trust you and thus, do business with you. that’s how the circle goes.
Thanks for the comment and do have a wonderful weekend as well 🙂

      1. Thanks for sharing that, Babanature 🙂

As I mentioned above, I started blogging as a hobby. And I started with the Science and Technology niches. Then, I came upon Blogengage, and that’s how I learned about blogging.

I have to thank those bloggers for everything. Those guys are the ones that motivated me to blog about blogging (and most of the posts were not related to making money online – so making money didn’t cross my mind, and I am glad that it didn’t). So, it wasn’t that hard to blog for people (I know it is kind of a shortcut, but I am glad it worked out that way).

        Agreed 🙂

Hope you are having a wonderful weekend 🙂

  16. Hi baba himself,

Like my coach Harleena said: “Yes, there are many bloggers who start off with lots of gusto but give up after a few months, mainly because of the very reasons you mentioned.

Just like you, blogging was never my cup of tea, and I had NO ONE either to teach me anything, nor did I have any friend’s because I was always a writer, busy in my own profession.”

So too many lost out, some abandoned their blog, others want to sell out their blogs for an amount they don’t even know.

  17. Hi,
Thanks for this motivational post. Indeed, the no 1 reason bloggers quit is cos of money and that’s where passion comes in. When you have a strong passion for something, your are likely to proceed at all cost and eventually win.
Quitters never win and winners never quit!
    Thanks for sharing…I appreciate!

  18. Hi Baba !
Money should not be the first priority of a blogger as it can make him/her quit .Bloggers should focus on building quality blog with good traffic and then try out their hand in earning online .Thanks for sharing the information .

    -Pramod

    1. Wow Pramod, you are definitely right. Try building a brand first make your readers believe in you, build a strong community and then money will start flowing naturally 🙂
Thanks for your lovely comment and do have a nice weekend…

  19. Hi Babanature,

You need to keep at it. We have ALL been there, struggling to get comments, or readers, or to make money. If you just stick with it, things will change.

    Thanks for sharing buddy!

    1. Hello Ryan,
The post is not about me. I have been in blogging since 2011 there is not room for quitting now that i am making money from it :).
Do people actually struggle to get comment to their blogs? I really don’t know about that. I do believe that if you do something good, every other thing will fall in place 🙂
Thanks for stopping by and dropping your comment buddy. have a blessed weekend…

  20. Hi Babanature,
I must say this is a well researched post, most people do not really know what it takes to be a better in blogging. It is very good to have passion for blogging before going into it. I love doing research and also I love giving value to people that is why i became a blogger. Joining the blogosphere for money is definitely a very wrong reason and most of the people in the wrong niche today are people who joined for money and they definitely end up failures. I started working on myself , learning form probloggers, watching video tutorials all to become better and improve and I must say an growing slowly. When you are patient, you will not quit, I believe in consistency.

    Thanks for sharing boss.

  21. For me, am about to quit since everything i try doesn’t work.
but i think i still have the gift to blog on my main reason of blogging. i don’t want to but …..

    1. Can i ask you, what and what you have tried? Because you might think you’re trying but you’re not doing anything ;).
Anyways thanks for stopping by and dropping your fabulous comment. do have a stress free weekend…

  22. Very well written article. I agree with you on what you have written here, and I think it really has to do with money-or not making money. Too often I see blog after blog shut down, and I don’t really think it is because of the cost of hosting, rather it is the cost vs. reward.

  23. Hi Babanature,

I am 100% agree with this posts. I am sure that at least 90% of bloggers quit blogging from because of money. They thought blogging is a way to make money very easily. Yes… We can make money form blogging. But it takes time and we have to do hard works 🙂

    1. Hello Raplus,
You know, money can as well be a source of motivation but never let the money take over you :).
Thanks for the contribution and do have a beautiful weekend start…

  24. Hey mate!

How are you? I feel it is all about goals. I gave up blogging (years and months back) due to:
    1. Lack of traffic (totally wrong target)
    2. I didn’t reach out to others (lone ranger)
    3. I focus too much in making money

Now, I learned that blogging should be fun and thus, I am really enjoying myself now 🙂

Thanks for sharing buddy. Voted up on BizSugar.

  25. I do believe the main reason people stop blogging is because the lack of money they are making. It takes time to build a blog. You have to get traffic, come up with blog post to write and for some people it is all too much. You can make money but it is not an overnight process which many people think it is. It’s just like with taking surveys. You can make money ( I have made money with survey companies) but it does take some time. People don’t want to put any effort into anything. If you go the distance the results will come. Thank you for sharing your insights with us Babanature! This is a blog post that every blogger should read!

  26. Hi Babanature,

I think there are two powerful reasons (apart from money) why a blogger quits. The worst is .. the niche.

You are not in the right niche so people come for a week or two maybe a month and when they see nothing interesting for them on your blog, they leave and never return. The solution is to meditate and find the answer to the question: “Why do you exist (in the online world)? What is your why? ”
When you find it, your hot, personal niche that really suits your needs is found.

The second reason is not socializing. I think most people who do not socialize … don’t know how to do it. On Twitter, for example, they don’t know where to go and what to do to socialize.

This may sound strange for experienced bloggers but when you are a beginner you don’t know 90% of all the things experienced bloggers look as “common sense knowledge”.

What is needed is a strategy for beginners to teach them how to socialize. Somebody has to take this apparently stupid idea and create a course for that. Most bloggers will be shocked to see how many simple things beginners don’t know.

So somebody has to have this patience and create this type of course or at least a series of blog posts to teach people how to socialize.

I haven’t found such material anywhere on the net.

    Have a wonderful day

    1. Hello Silviu,
You have seriously contributed to this post greatly and i’ll say, thanks for that.
Seriously, i haven’t seen a blog as well that teaches new bloggers about socializing and i’ll say; that’s a good idea.
Thanks for the comment and do have a beautiful week…
