Web Traffic? How To Kick Start Your Blog The Smart Way

Every blogger love getting traffic to their blog. In fact, the best words new bloggers search for while making research on how to improve their blogs are “web traffic”, and why is that? Because, web traffic is the life source of our blog 🙂

How To Kick Start Your Blog The Smart Way

But tell me – is traffic the only thing we bloggers think about? Definitely not!

We do try as much to drive traffic to our blog, but all traffic are useless if your blog (both content) doesn’t satisfy the traffic you’re pulling in.

How do I mean? Imaging, you have a self hosted blog (or a Google blog) – the design of your blog is 100% bad,   your writing style is also bad and you’re trying to pull-in traffic.

Sure you will get the traffic you want but you will not get your desired result. And how do I mean? Your bounce rate will increase by 80% which is totally bad for your blog ranking on search engines. And due to the high bounce rate your blog is receiving, your blog will not yield you income.

How Do I Kick Start My Blog For Better Result?

You’ve been blogging for 6 months now and you’re still seeing no result, don’t you think it’s time for a big change? Now let’s go back to basics 🙂 …

Below are few changes you can make to see a profitable result…

Back to basics #1:

– Change the theme of your blog

Sometimes, the theme you use poses a big treat to you and your business. So why not change it to a more professional and good-looking theme and see if there won’t be positive changes!

The one reason people don’t stay longer to read your blog post is simply because your blog is not appealing to the eyes.

To make your blog more professional;

–          Do not use multi colors on your blog – at least 3 “not so flashy” colors is very much okay.

–          Allow your blog font and size to be readable – Do not use fonts that is hard to understand or font size that is hard to read. At least font size of 12 is very much okay for all.

–          Try as much to optimize your theme so it won’t slow your blog down – Go get yourself a paid theme and if you can’t afford a paid theme, go nowhere else to get a free theme except wordpress.org theme repository.

–          Remember that too much of ads are bad for your blog – There are many bloggers out there that put these third-party ad network in every corner of their blogs thinking that doing so will yield them more money. But after their 6 months of blogging, they’ll discover that they are still not making many at all 🙂 . Because of this act, their traffic will drop 60% to what they were having.

Remember that making money online is not about how many ads you put up in your blog, but the sense in which you monetize your blog.

Back to Basics #2:

– Why is your blog so darn slow?

There are many reasons why your blog is so slow, it might not 100% be your fault but at least optimizing your blog is just the right way to go.

A slow blog can also make you lose those people coming to your blog for the first time. And aside the visitors, it can also make you lose your search engine ranking.

I have written a lot of posts that will help you speed up your blog the right way…

Back to Basics #3:

– Write it Simple or write it hard but make sure it’s readable and understandable

What makes a post a killer post is not how they write it but the message and information they pass. At least that’s my own definition of killer content.

Must Read: How to Totally Stop Receiving Spam Comments

Have you written that awesome article? Before pressing that publish button, try to;

–          Let the post be readable and understandable – I know you have the English dictionary stored in your brain. But hey, calm down and make your post understandable. If you are in the blogging tip niche or you are in the tutorial niche, don’t use big grammars because you might scare a lot of people away. Instead, use words a lay man can easily understand. Trust me; everybody wants to learn from blogs they can easily understand.

–          Make sure you proofread the post – Go out, take a stroll and after some hours, go back to the post and read it again. That way, you’ll see some little mistakes you did not see when you were writing the post.

–          Remember that checking for grammar error is very important – after writing that awesome post, it is good to check for grammar errors. If you are not that good in English, it is best to ask a friend to proofread it for grammar errors. But if you don’t have a friend that is good in English, try using an online grammar checker, like grammarcheck.net

–          A catchy image can bring in lots of social traffic and shares – Images say a lot about ones post and not using it, is a big disappointment. Never underestimate the power of images, they can beautify a blog and attract social traffic.

Back to Basics #4:

– Don’t just promote your blog post on every social network, connect with the majority

There are some bloggers that joins group just to dump their links and go. They don’t really care about who sees their post and who don’t.

Remember that no social community likes link dumpers.

Link dumpers don’t see good results from groups and communities. Think I am lying; go ask any link dumper 🙂

Getting traffic from social network is one big advantage to rank high in search engines. So make sure you;

–          Help others and you will definitely get traffic as your reward – Don’t just drop link to your latest blog post and go, try as much as possible to help those who ask for help in that group or community the best way you can. Trust me, it will go a long way

–          Allow the community to know you more – Allow the community to know you more by visiting their blogs, sharing their posts on your social networks… gradually, you will become the center of attraction in that group.

Note: You do not have to visit all members blog, but at least visiting most is a step forward.

Remember: You are a blogger and your job is to help people.

Still Talking:

With all the above steps, you can bring back any blog to life. Life is simple and doing things simple is what we should focus on.

Before you think of money, think first on how to improve your blog

To make continues money online, and to have an active blog, you’ll need to have friends and loyalist. And before you can get these friends and loyalist, you will need to do the above…

Go out there, make yourself known and in return, you will get love, friends and loyalist. 🙂

  1. Hi Babanature,

I couldn’t agree more with all that you’ve written 🙂

Being bloggers, our foremost concern must be to help other bloggers and readers through our content, and if our writing is not clear, simple, readable, and understandable, we lose that very purpose.

Yes, if our blog is slow or takes time loading, we lose out on traffic, and hence the money making chance too for those keen on it of course. If there is any change required, whether it’s change of theme, adding or removing plugin etc…you should go for what makes your blog better. I think that’s the reason you also changed your theme, and I also – though sometimes back.

Presence on the social networks is important for bloggers, but you need to strike the right balance and not overdo it, nor just blow your own trumpet and not think of others, isn’t it?

Thanks for sharing. Have a nice weekend 🙂

    1. Hello Harleena,

You are right, if a blogger’s writing is not clear or simple enough, how can he/she teach, help or pass out information… so most bloggers needs to know about this 🙂

Yeah, i did change my theme because the previous one was slowing down my blog and that’s bad for my readers and as well as my search ranking.

You’re definitely right about that dear friend.

Thanks for stopping by and making your contribution to the post as you’ve always done 🙂

      Have a blessed weekend rest…

  2. Hi Babanature,
I guess start learning on attractive headline and little bit about keyword will help a lot to bring in more traffic into our blog.

Thanks for the post my friend. Wish you enjoy the weekend

    1. Hello Okto,
Yes attractive titles and head line are great for traffic but if the content is not up to standard, the writer will only have higher bounce which will eventually destroy his blog.

We need to focus on other things that matters, that’s what this post is preaching 🙂

Thanks for stopping by and dropping your comment dear friend.Do have a wonderful weekend

  3. Hi friend; I loved what you did with this post. You covered blog design, content creation, and community building. I do agree with you that new bloggers need to work more on becoming friends with other bloggers. this is the best way to get noticed and build a community of loyal readers who will help you as you are helping them. They will mention you in a round up post, ask you to be a guest author, invite you to take part in a podcast, etc. And many of them will care about you enough to ask how you are doing and check in on you if they don’t hear from you. some will become good friends if not almost like family. and this is also the best way to find a mentor. I have made a lot of progress since joining people’s communities, and it starts with being a good online friend and neighbor. Let me know if I can do anything for you or your readers. Take care my friend. xoxo max

    1. Hello, Dear friend,

You’re definitely right, making connection is way more powerful then just doing link dumping. And believe you me, making connection can go a long way.

I will definitely do that dear friend 🙂

Do have a lovely weekend ahead…

  4. In every successful blogging carrier, a unique and well structured theme is required. As it would make you looks professional in the blogosphere. And secondly, it’s very important to also make the font of your blog readable to readers (like using a better font color and size). Anyways, thanks for sharing and do have a nice weeks ahead.. 😀

    1. Hello Victor,
You know, the problem with many new bloggers nowadays, they don’t read what they see that will surely help them. At the end of the day, they’ll stop blogging because they are not seeing the required results

  5. Hi Babanature,

    Such a great post.:)

For beginners and experienced bloggers it’s necessary to know how to drive traffic to their blog with the changes with their themes and more.

Having a good looking theme is always profitable. It helps bloggers to attract readers. People don’t like to be more colorful so it’s good to keep our theme simple with effective color combination.

Bloggers should take care that their content should be good to read and their font size should be appropriate.

Unique content is always recommended. People like to read new ideas.

    Thanks for the article.

    Have a nice weekend.:)

    ~Ravi

    1. Hello Ravi,
You are right, New ideas matter a lot in this blogging age and as well a your grammar errors. If your content has so many grammar error, it will only lead to high bounce rate.

Thank you for your thought and contribution to this post. Do have a wonderful week ahead…

  6. Hello Babanature,

Many of what you shared here are worth taking seriously otherwise, a blogger will find it very difficult to grow his blog.

Having a bad non readable font is very annoying to the readers eyes could easily lead losing your readers fast and your other point about design is another major one.

Like you said, is very good to have a good theme that go along with a very compelling contents/information; sure readers will find the blog.

Thanks for sharing and do have a nice day.

    1. Hello Shamsudeen,
You know, the first thing a visitors see before visiting your blog is your title. after they are in your blog, the next thing is your blog design. But the most important thing is your writing style – are they free from grammar errors or are they easy to understand?

If a blog doesn’t have those qualities, they will eventually fall due to the high bounce rate they will be receiving.

Thanks for your contribution to the post. Do have a wonderful week ahead…

  7. Hello Babanature,

What attract to a blog the most has to do with it fonts aside the quality contents which are channeled out. You have indeed shared some interesting tips.

  8. Hi Baba, no doubt that relationship building and great content are two ways one can draw traffic to their site.

The content should however be targeted.

One can use Topsy to write awesome content in a particular having compared it to similar content.

As bloggers should know there is no need to re invent the wheel.

What it takes is to provide incredible content that will beat the content of your competitor.

The next step is for you to go your way to do blogger outreach.

And you would sure develop closer relationship especially if you can spice your post with links of influencers

  9. Hi Babanature,

Boy are you so right about this topic. Writing posts is only the meat of it but if people come to your site and for one reason or another can’t stand to be there then you’re definitely not going to be getting any steady traffic.

I think the quickest thing anyone can do is get someone to look at their site and give them their honest opinion about where they believe the problems lies. Now you don’t have to be all technical and everything but if you were visiting it for the first time let them know what you liked about it but more importantly what you didn’t like about it.

If no one is commenting or your bounce rate is high then you can be sure it’s either your site or your content. I think that if they go down this list you have here maybe they can figure it out but we are our own worse critics. Obviously they created the site and like it so they might not be the best people for this particular job. LOL!!!

Either way, great tips and I hope that everyone is getting lots of traffic to their blogs but if they aren’t then there usually is a reason behind it and it could very well be one of these.

    ~Adrienne

P.S. I have one suggestion for you if you don’t mind. When commenting, as I type the fonts are really very small. Once you publish it they are of a pretty good size. I’m not sure why that is but I have to practically squint every time I comment here. Just a suggestion I hope you don’t mind me leaving.

    1. Hello Adrienne,

Your suggestion is well noted… I have made the comment box section more bold when writing comments. Now its more clear 🙂

Thanks for showing me that and for the contribution as well dear friend. Do have a blessed week ahead…

    Thanks for sharing.

  11. yes of course, Every blogger want to get more and more traffic from his blog.
Yes you are right sir, Blog design is very very important for user.
Before reading this post I were always just drop latest post to social network. But now I participate in social network site.
thanks sir for guiding us with great information.

  12. Hi Babanature,

    Loved reading your article.

One thing really struck me is that why share aimlessly on multiple social networks? It’s best to stick two or three majority networks and get the maximum out of it. This one was real good.
Blog speed: that’s one more thing. It irritates the reader and also bad for SEO. So I created a pretty light theme for myself and use CDN. SO that’s covered for me.
Writing simple is very important, I feel. At least we must write in bullet form and numbered forms. Long paragraphs are very boring to read.
    Great article!

  13. I love your post i think now i have to start it from the beginning. The blog speed matter the most . so lots of ads going to destroy a blog . if ur blog load fast Google going to be in love with ur blog.
