Why You Will Never Make Money Online as a Blogger

Here’s the shocking truth; you will never make money online as a blogger, do you know why? Because, you’re sincerely not ready to make money online as a blogger. ***fact***

Make Money Online as a Blogger

Hey! Don’t think my introduction line was harsh because that’s the basic truth. Or was it that harsh? Okay, I am sorry, let me rephrase that in a softer way 🙂

Must Read: How To Write A Blog Post That Pays

You want to make money online blogging, right? Truly, it doesn’t take more than 5 minutes to create a simple and good-looking blog. Yes, as long as you have all the necessary tools in place, that’s very possible to do.

You can even start updating your blog with good posts/ article(s) on daily or weekly basis. But nothing will happen if you keep that weak strength of yours, by always posting what has already been posted by other bloggers.

Remember: I want you to know that it’s easy to create a blog but it takes a lot of guts to keep up a successful blog…

You know, when I first ventured into blogging, somebody told me that I was never going to make a living out of blogging. Yes, that is what they told me. But here is the plain truth about me – I never entered into blogging because of the money; I was in it because I love teaching, giving out positive and valuable information that will help better the next person blogging or tech career – that’s the main reason behind why I created my blog.

Yes, I did not have the money to do paid advert and yes, I did not have the money to buy me a paid theme. But then, I was giving my audience what they really want to know. How? By finding the best solution to some of their blogging and technical problems… With that, in less than two months, I made my first real-time money online as a blogger.

How did I make money online as a blogger in my first 2 months?

Well, then I did not know anything about affiliate marketing or how to truly make money online as at my first few weeks, why? Because I was into blogging not because of the money but because of the joy I get when I’m in front of my computer 🙂

After my first two weeks of blogging, I was introduced to Google adsense by a good friend. Yes, adsense was one of my first monetization strategies for my first ever blog.

Even after placing the adsense code on my blog, I didn’t for once check my adsense dashboard to know how my earnings was, why? Because I never believe that I will be making money blogging.

But after a month and two weeks I got a mail from adsense informing me that my money has reached its threshold. I got my first 200 euro in less than two months… I was happy because I never believed that one could actually make money online. I know the money was little but comparing it to what many newbie bloggers make, that’s a good sum 🙂

From then on, I learned how to monetize my blog effectively. After a year, I became a fulltime blogger 🙂

Back to the matter

If you are not making money online blogging, is because you’re doing so many things wrong. And today I am going to mentions few of what you’re doing wrong so you can change for the better.

Why You Will Never Make Money Online as a Blogger

Monetizing your blog with more than 2 ad networks:

I have seen bloggers who monetizes their blogs with more than two ad networks, hoping that they’ll make some good money faster. After adding these ad networks all over their blogs, they’ll wonder why they’ve made just a dollar for the past one year even if they feel the ads are okay.

Must Read: Best ad Networks for Publishers and Their Secrets

The simple reason you will never make money online using adsense, infolinks or any third-party ad network is simply because;

  • You do not have targeted traffic
  • Your readers exit your blog immediately after opening it, why? Your blog is so slow due to the many ads you’ve placed on it.
  • Remember that nobody likes a blog with a high bounce rate
  • Your blog readers don’t care about your ads because they are just so annoying

How can I fix this?

Remember: Placing many ads on your blog will never yield you any income. It will only decrease your blog traffic and increase your blog bounce rate.

√ First, do away with all those ad networks and focus on one ad network. Why? Only then you will be able to learn more on how to better improve your earnings.

√ Do not place your ads everywhere on your blog. Only place your ads on strategic areas like; on the header, the sidebar and middle of post.

√ Try not to look for traffic on places that are not related to your blog’s niche. Focus on places that yield better results.

√ Always try as much to cut your bounce rate by providing your audience with engaging posts and make sure you use related post to keep your audience

You have not built that connection with your audience

I have seen so many bloggers trying to make money through affiliate marketing or other means, but couldn’t. After trying for so many months and fail, they simply quit their blogs.

The reason they did not make any sales or only sell just few is simply because they have not built that trusted/ relationship with their readers.

Must Read: Why Trying to Make Money Online Can Be Dangerous to Your Health

Don’t get me wrong, you can make money on sales and adsense if you do not build that connection with your audience. But the one way you can make money without building connection, is to do paid ad… with paid ad, you can be sure to make some few dollars if the ad you are promoting is catchy.

How to fix this?

You can only do paid advertising if you have the money. But since you’re new and don’t have that kind of money to do paid advertising, building friendship and trust is the keynote to making money online…

Remember that building trust is not a day thing, it takes time. And after you’ve gain that trust, everything will go on smoothly.

Spamming groups and community, instead of winning them over

The main purpose many of us join groups and communities, is simply because we want traffic to our blog. So we can convert that traffic to loyalist and potential customers.

Many new bloggers join social groups simply because they want to spam them instead of engaging them.

How often do you read those spam comments you receive on your blog? Me? I do not have the time to read 37 spam comments per day, I just delete the spam comments and that’s it.

People who see your posts on these social networks pass your blog link because they see you as a bot or spam.

Spamming blogs, communities and social groups will never give you the result you’re seeking for.

Remember: The main reason we seek for traffic is simply because we want to create loyalist and customers.

Trying to force products on your audience

You believe you can make money online by pushing your product on people faces. You think you are making some good improvement, but in reality, you’re killing your traffic. Soon you’ll notice that your audience is reducing…

Are you that blogger that has a pop-up on his blog and sends messages of affiliate product to his lists everyday? Ahaha… trust me, with time you’ll know what I am talking about.

Remember: you don’t need to force people to buy from you. They will buy what you sell more, if they trust you.

Four (4) bonus tips on why you will never make money online as a blogger

→ Promoting your blog on places that doesn’t matter

→ Always sharing what can be easily found on the next bloggers blog

→ You don’t have a “Hire me” on your blog

→ You believe too much on yourself that you don’t need any connection or loyalist.

The concluding part

Making money online takes time but with sense and smart move, you can fasten that time… yes, that’s a true fact.

You want to make money online? Then, start building that trust, start building that connection and see if your blogging career will not move to the better side.

Remember: the main reason some bloggers don’t make money is not because they don’t have traffic but because they do not have that connection with their audience.

  1. Hi Babanature,

You are right in all that you mentioned – no doubt about it at all 🙂

Making money is something most bloggers are always in a rush to do, somehow they just don’t have the patience to let it come to them naturally, and they try all unfair ways to make quick money. When they fail, they quit.

Placing your ads in the right place, not cluttering too many all over your blog, and the trust and connection factors are ALL a must. I think when you build relationships with fellow bloggers, the trust develops. They may or may not be your right audience to make money, but they can always help, isn’t it?

Thanks for sharing. Have a nice week ahead 🙂

    1. Hello Harleena,
You’ve added some awesome lines to the post 🙂

Yes, many new bloggers believe many money blogging is as easy as they read it, but at the long run they fail because there were nobody advising them.

Thanks for your contribution to the post as always. I do appreciate 🙂
      Have yourself a blessed week…

  2. You drove your valid points without sugar coating them. I like your views on people posting in social groups and blog comments and I too thought on the same lines after which I started sharing on lesser number of FB groups and G+ communities.

I wish I had know you earlier.

    1. Hello Kidambi,

Focusing our energy on places that gives us the most traffic is the most smart choice. and before posting, engaging the group is also a smart choice many of us forget to carry out.

Thanks for stopping by Kidambi, hope to see you more often 🙂

      Have a blessed weekend start…

  3. Hi BabaNature,
It’s been a while I dropped a comment here at your blog, anyway, wonderful article you set up here, you made mention of spammy comment, I disable Anonymous comments on my blog some months back and since then I’ve been able to have a rest from deleting of spammy comments on daily bases.

Making money from blogging isn’t way too easy (Talking out of experience), your story is quite a motivating one and I must confess, you are very lucky I guess. It took me almost a year to make my first $100 from my blog.
Nice one, this is a must read for every newbie, and surely I learnt alot from it.
    Thanks for the info.

    1. Hello Frank,

Disabling the anonymous feature for comment is a smart choice, but it will surely affect those none bloggers that comes to your blog 🙂

I would say that; it happened because i was thinking more on how to provide quality than thinking on how to make money off what i was giving 🙂 .

Ah… 100$ your first year? Wow!!! I guess that now, you have find your way through the hardship and money have started rolling in, right?

Anyways, thank you very much for stopping by and contributing to the post at hand. do have a blessed weekend start…

  4. Thanks for this wonderful tips. But i disagree on the area of using one ad network. Using one ad program can be very risky because your acct can be disable one day and that can lead to blog frustration. So setting up two streams of income is good. Thanks ones again for the wonderful post.

    1. Hello Nwosu,

Don’t get me wrong. a blogger that does not have multiple stream of income, will live to regret his action.

Having more than one stream is advisable, but having two different ‘third party ad networks’ is totally bad, why? Because it slows down your blog and you will never yield any good income when using more than one ad networks.

My advice is to use a third party ad network, mix it with affiliate marketing and also add you hire me page and invite private bodies to advertise on your blog. You will make more money this way…

  5. Hi Babanature,

You are so right Babanature. It all boils down to building connections and trust by making valuable relationships.

Without other people, we have no business. Relationships are business. One of the most important things that you can have as a business owner are good relationships. Good relationships can be very instrumental in the success of a business which will later lead to money.

Thanks Babanature for a great share as always. Enjoy the rest of your week.

    Be Blessed,

    Neamat

  6. Hi Babanature

Really a very useful post especially for those who eats their own fingers in desperation just after a few months of starting a blog and not making money with it.

It is impossible to earn money soon after making a blog. It is equally almost impssible to earn huge bucks in a short period of time.

Just look around all the most successful money bloggers; all of them have been blogging for the last ten years at least and now making five figure income with their blog.

So patience, hard work and strategy are the three pillars on which on can build a strong foundation and structure of a money blog.

Thanks a lot for sharing this very lucrative post.

    1. Hello Mi,

You have said it; it takes some time, smart work and strategy to make money online blogging. As the blogging giants would say; you do not have to own a blog for many years before you can make good money with it. As long as you can apply the pillar you stated, it is achievable.

Thanks for stopping by and dropping your comment, do have a wonderful weekend

  7. Hello; You certainly gave lots of value in this post. the headline was a little harsh, but too many people come to blogging thinking its going to be easy. I agree with you its all about building relationships and creating your own community of loyal readers who will subscribe to your email list, read your posts, leave quality comments, share your work on social media, promote your products, etc. I’m glad that I can consider you part of my team and think of myself as a member of yours. keep up the great work, max

    1. Hello Max,
Some people needs to hear the truth in a harsh way so they can understand the process before it’s too late.

Yeah… i’m glad i did make connection with you and hope it will go a long way than this 🙂

Thanks for stopping by and dropping your comment, Do have a wonderful weekend

  8. Hi Baba,

Online money through Advertisements and through Affiliate are the two most attempted methods. I made some money through affiliate marketing too but it’s never regular. I earn quite good money regularly from Adsense over past several years.

In case of Adsense money, I learned that you should focus more on SEO and target organic traffic. They really click the ads compared to the loyal followers or traffic from social networks.

However, for affiliate marketing, it is the loyal readers or traffic from social networks that convert better.

As we get both kind of traffic from the two kind of traffic source, why not to apply both kind of monetization? I suggest to go for it rather than limit yourself on any one source only.

Thanks for this awesome post. The title as really harsh 😛

    1. Hello Suresh,
Good to see you here again 🙂

You have laid down a nice thought on this post and for that, i say thank you.

About the title, the new bloggers really need to know that making money is not easy and what better way to tell them then this 🙂

Thanks for stopping by and dropping your valuable comment as always. Do have a beautiful weekend 🙂

  9. Affiliate marketing is tha best way to make money from a blog, adsense pays way to low when you could earn 40-60 bucks or even more in commissions for referring web hosting, premium themes, seo tools and a lot of genuine stuff.

Making money online require dedication, many hours of work, learn, fail, learn more and eventually you understand what you have to do to earn money online.

    Kind regards,
    I. C. Daniel

    1. You’re definitely right Daniel,
Making money online requires long hours of your time and dedication. Making money is never an easy task but with applying smart work, things can be done.

Thanks for your lovely contribution on this dear friend. Do have yourself a blessed weekend

  10. You very right Baba. Everything about making money as a blogger boils down to building relationship, servicing them and gaining their trust by making providing values and respect.
However, making money online does not come that easy. thanks for this piece.

    1. Hello Emebu,

Making money online is never an easy job and no life job is too 🙂

Making connections is one hidden secret to become successful.

Thanks for contributing to the topic, it was indeed appreciated 🙂

      Have yourself a blessed weekend.

  11. Hey Babanature,

I absolutely agree with the first statement. I have wanted to make money through blogging, but it was never a need. It was more of a side goal (and that isn’t the best thing to do, especially if you want to make money actively).

Anyways, I have finally decided to invest into this and try to make more money through offering writing services (making money through my blog hasn’t really worked for me, perhaps because I didn’t need to, or maybe because I didn’t try the right strategies).

Most of the money I have made is through sponsored posts and guest blogging contests (Sponsored posts may not always work with the blog readers and there are only so many contests to participate. So, these two methods aren’t really effective, especially if you want to make money every month).

The way I figure, writing is something I am good at..and it’s something I have been doing for a while (so, I do have a strong resume, right away, which can help to get more clients).

Hopefully that will work out 😉

Anyways, thank you for the awesome tips, Babanature!

    1. Hello Jeevan,

You do have a powerful approach towards blogging and that is one thing that will carry you higher.

As you say, maybe you haven’t figure out the right making money strategy for your blog for steady stream of income. With your progression, I am sure that someday you’ll find:)

Thank you for sharing your thought with us. Do have a wonderful weekend start…

  12. Hello Babanature,

Your article is so full of insights: insights every newbie should take to heart – especially those newbies who think making money online is synonymous with laziness.

To make real bucks, value must precede all else: then, passion and hardwork…only then will the bucks follow. Any other plan is akin to putting the cart before the horse…

    It won’t work!

Do have a very great day!

    Always,
    Terungwa

    1. Hello Akaahan,

Ye, you are definitely right… Value do play a big roll in making money as a blogger…

Thanks for stopping by and dropping your insight on the post at hand. Do have a blessing weekend 🙂

  13. You quite mentioned the facts why many bloggers fail to make money with their blogs. Before a dime is made, loyal audience has to be developed. And doing this involves key strategies that must be inherent in the blog before even thinking of monetisation. Otherwise it will appear as if the readers are being forced to purchase the products.

Solve their problems and add value to their presence and you already create a natural market for the offers and the ads.

If they aren’t fully engaged with the blog and the contents, they aren’t likely to click on any ad even if only one ad network is integrated into the blog

  14. I learnt a lot from this post i swear..

Thanks sir for this wonderful artilcle.

Just love u and i enjoy reading your blog.

I will add more effort to my blog.

    Love u for this

  15. Hi There,

You have pointed our some excellent sides.

Actually everyone still can’t make a lot of money as a blogger. But the question behind is “why?”.

I would definitely suggest all of them to first read through this post. I’m sure they will get the answer of why.

Once again, thanks for your awesome post…

  16. Hi Babanature,

Well, I believe these are very common mistakes which are made by newbies. I am not saying, Pro’s are not making mistakes, they might be making many of these, but mostly newbies find it difficult to make money from as bloggers, due to these r some other mistakes. So, great Post brother, It will help many. Well Done !

  17. Wonderful! Babanature you always have something interesting to Give out and i think this what every Blogger should emulate. So i would leave it at this: Rich content , Right audience , Community and Working Strategies will produce great results. Cheers!!!

    1. I agree completely. Actually, a blogger first must be completely educated on how to better optimize the blog. Once it’s on its peak optimization, then forget the optimization and money, and solely work for your readers, when your readers would be happy, you’ll automatically start earning money. In the race of earning, we forget our target readers that’s not good.

  18. I came across this post by accident but it’s perfect for what I was experiencing. I have 2 blogs that I work on, but neither of them is generating any money. I will implement the ideas you talk about here and see what happens. I’m close to quitting though – my wife has given me an ultimatum to get a job/make money or get out!

My dream is to work everyday from home using my blogs.
