Sometimes it’s funny seeing a blog that copied your content word for word outranking you on Google search…
If you are not taking down any blog that copied your content, you will be losing traffic that’s supposed to be coming to your blog.
To take down a blog that “copy and paste” contents from your blog, you will need to file a DMCA complaint. Filing a successful DMCA complaint, will remove the blog post from Google search permanently.
What’s DMCA: According to WIKIPEDIA; Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) is a United States copyright law that implements two 1996 treaties of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). It criminalizes production and dissemination of technology, devices, or services intended to circumvent measures (commonly known as digital rights management or DRM) that control access to copyrighted works.
Thank God, Google do offer a DMCA takedown for free. What I mean is; you can report any blog that copied your blog’s content to Google and the copied content will be removed from Google Search immediately.
How do you file a Google DMCA complaint?
If a blog is on Blogger/BlogSpot and that blog stole your content, you can easily report the copied post using this Tutorial found here… How to File a DMCA Takedown on BlogSpot For Copyright Infringement
But if the blog is on WordPress.org (self hosted), Joomla, Wapka or any other platform, then you can follow the below tutorial to take that blog post down.
Tutorial on how to remove a copied content from Google Search
First off, go to Google DMCA legal page by clicking here => Google DMCA legal
Note: You will have to log-in using your Gmail account before proceeding.
On the “Legal Removal Request” page, click “Submit a Legal Request” and click “Tool” (see image below)
Clicking the “Tool” link will take you to a new tab >>> on this new tab, click “Web Search”
Scroll down to “what can we help you with” and click “I have a legal issue that is not mentioned above” and click “I have found content that may violate my copyright”
In the “Are you the copyright owner or authorized to act on his/her behalf?” Click “Yes, I am the copyright owner or am authorized to act on the copyright owner’s behalf”
In “What is the allegedly infringing work in question?” click “other” and you will get an instruction like the screenshot below…
Now read the instruction carefully and click the last link to fill out the form… this is exactly how the form looks like.
Fill and submit… those links that copied your contents will be removed from Google search engine almost immediately.
If you did not submit the form as described, you will receive a message from Google asking you to send some clarifications. After that, the copied link will be removed
Once successful, you will regain your traffic and you will also rank well on that particular keyword.
This tip will help you regain your lost traffic… and do note that it works on all platforms. But if you want a takedown on blogs from WordPress.com platform, you can as well follow this link.
Please do note that WordPress.com is totally different from wordpress.org.
Go try it out and let’s make those copy-paste bloggers know that this business is not for the lazy ones.
